How to get a world-class high-tech product for the pharmaceutical industry discussed at the XII Congress «Innovative Practice: Science plus Business»

Participants of the discussion » Domestic pharmaceutical innovations: how to get a world-class high-tech company » in the format of a TED conference, they shared their opinion on whether science can exist without innovation and what is the role of education in the development of innovation.

The event was moderated by an advisor to the General Director of the Autonomous Non-Profit Organization «Innovative Engineering Center», Doctor of Medical Sciences Oleg Lavrov.

The discussion was attended by Andrey Ivashchenko, Chairman of the Committee on Innovative Pharmaceuticals of the National Champions Association, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ChemRar Group, and Harutyun Avetisyan, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the V. P. Ivannikov Institute of System Programming of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Sciences for Digital Transformation, Head of the Departments of System Programming (MSU, MIPT, HSE).

Speakers discussed the features that define innovation in high-tech industries and projects, told about the history and activities of their organizations, and also analyzed the potential of artificial intelligence and prospects for its use in various fields of activity, including the pharmaceutical industry.

«Scientific activity is aimed at» extracting » new knowledge about nature, that is, new knowledge serves as the basis for technology, medicine, engineering and economics. Innovation involves applying this knowledge to create a new product, something that did not exist before«, —  said Andrey Ivashchenko. — «The need for an organization to innovate is born when competitors around you start doing the same things that you already produce. Then you need to come up with something that will be your know-how, that will give your production exclusivity in the market, protect it with a patent, or just protect and implement it in the know-how mode

«We can only move forward by combining three elements: education, innovation and advanced science. Otherwise, you’re constantly dealing with yesterday. The modern world is changing at such a rate that it is enough to lose touch with the leading edge for a couple of years — and the lag becomes irreversible. If you want to work in an advanced industry or science, you should not just be at the forefront, but also determine where it will move«, — said Harutyun Avetisyan.

The speaker mentioned the role of school education in the development of innovation: «Our competitive advantage is classical fundamental education. But knowledge transfer alone is not enough; it is necessary to instill a scientific culture. Now a lot is being done in the country for this purpose: mathematical centers are being opened, scientific schools are being developed, and much more… But teachers remain the cornerstone of success, and their training and support should be approached with special care
